Oakley was founded in 1975 by Jim Jannard and the success of its first product, handgrips for motocross motorcycles, led the company to expand into motocross goggles in 1980. By 1984, using the knowledge gained in designing, manufacturing and marketing goggles, the company produced its first high-performance sunglasses, the Eyeshades.

Since then, the company has developed and secured over 600 patents and 800 trademarks worldwide and has incorporated those technologies into numerous sunglass lines. Their product range now encompasses footwear, clothing, watches as well as a prescription eyewear line. Oakley is now recognized as one of the most coveted brands in performance technology and fashion.
