Taffeta is a light, plain-weave fabric, originally made from silk but today usually manufactured from artificial fibres such as polyester or nylon. Its light weight and tight weave make it a cheap and hard-wearing material suitable for many uses.
Used for all sorts of things, from clothes to ribbons to umbrellas, in the outdoor world it's used as a lightweight, usually waterproof or water-resistant material. The most common use of Taffeta in our products are for lightweight hoods for jackets and lining in down jackets - it helps stop those pesky sharp feather ends poking out into you! It's also used for all sorts of bags and is often coated to increase its water-resistance and to make it more hardwearing.
