Reason for purchase: To climb Mount Snowdon. I'm not an expert on fleeces so I had to do quite a bit of research before coming to what in today's climate is an expense buy all things considered. I looked at various fleeces from different manufacturers and even went into a couple of shops to try some on before committing to this one for the following reasons. You need a windstopper fleece on hill/mount walks for definite, there really is no point considering a cheap one because they simply won't give you sufficient protection from the elements. Also, Berghaus as a manufacturer was highly recommended by my aunt who is a 30 year veteran of the Rambler Association so I knew it was going to last me for many years to come. Conclusion: I made it to the summit of Snowdon (Feb 22nd 09) wearing just this fleece and a Berghaus Tech short sleeve tee-shirt. It was amazingly comfortable, highly breathable and perfectly warm throughout the hard climb to the top. I'm therefore going to give this a 10 because the fleece did exactly what I hoped it would and was £50 less than the most expensive soft shell on this site. If you are considering a windstopper fleece but are confused but the vast array on the market, I can tell you this one will take you up a mountain in harsh conditions and keep you warm and dry.
